Litchfield Hills, Connecticut

This historic town above the Naugatuck valley is home to America’s first school of law as well as author of the controversial 1800’s novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Harriet Beecher Stowe) and her outspoken brother, Rev. Henry Ward Beecher. Come soak up the history as you rejuvenate in the peaceful town. Here are some things of interest mto visit in this Connecticut town.

Things to Do in Litchfield Hills

Haight-Brown Vineyard & Winery -- As one of New England’s rare vineyards and Connecticut’s 1st Winery, this is a great way to get a “taste” of the regions best. Tasting and tours of the vineyard and winery offered daily.

Litchfield History Museum – Come see the impressive art and artifacts of the 18th – 21st Century America. The Galleries have displays of furniture, artwork, textiles and household items.

Tapping Reeve House – Learn about the law school and its illustrious graduates like Aaron Burr and John C. Calhoun as you tour the displays and exhibits here. Over 100 of their graduates served in Congress.

Lee’s Riding Stable—Spend a day high in the saddle as you travel in style on one of horses here. There are also pony rides and an indoor riding area.

Litchfield Performing Arts – From jazz camps and festivals, to assorted programs and dances, this is a smooth place to kick back and relax.

Lourdes in Litchfield Shrine Grotto – a 35 acre replica of Lourdes in France and the Stations of the Cross as well as a picnic area and gift shop

White Flower Farm – A 10 acre area with gorgeous flower gardens--especially known for their begonias. A garden store is inside.

White Memorial Conservation Center Museum -- hands on exhibit, live animals, bird sanctuary and nature trail.

White Memorial Foundation – The 4,000 acre nature preserve offers 35 miles of hiking and horseback riding. You can also enjoy fishing, cross-country skiing, camping and bird watching from observation platforms.
